Agriculture Commissioner James Comer presents the 4-H share of the Ag Tag donations to the State 4-H Officers and Keith Rogers, executive director of the 4-H Foundation.

LEXINGTON, KY – The Kentucky 4-H Foundation is distributing over $84,000 to County 4-H Councils across the Commonwealth.  The funds are the county’s share of the 2014 Ag Tag voluntary donations.  For the third year, thanks to Commissioner of Agriculture James Comer, proceeds from the voluntary donations to the Agricultural Program Trust Fund are divided equally among 4-H, FFA, and Kentucky Proud.

Earlier this year, Commissioner Comer along with 4-H and FFA asked farmers across the Commonwealth to step-up and make the Ag Tag donation.  Farmers have the option to donate $10.00 when renewing their farm license plates.

The 4-H share for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 is $169,280.21.  These funds benefit all levels of Kentucky 4-H, as they are split equally between the county where the funds originated and the Kentucky 4-H Foundation.  All 120 counties will receive support from the Ag Tag donations, funding local 4-H programs and activities for the youth in the community; while the Foundation’s share is used to support state level programs many of our 4-H members participate in, furthering their positive experiences and opportunities.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the agriculture community to support Kentucky’s youth,” said Keith L. Rogers, executive director of the Kentucky 4-H Foundation.  “The entire 4-H family thanks Commissioner Comer and all the farmers who made the voluntary donation.  These funds help us to provide life-enriching opportunities for the more than 238,000 Kentucky 4-H members so they can develop leadership and citizenship, and learn important life skills.”

The 4-H Foundation congratulates the top 10 counties in total donations for 2014.  For a complete listing of county results, please visit our website at www.kentucky4hfoundation.org.
