Keith Rogers, Kentucky 4-H Foundation Executive Director

Recently, I went to the movie theater with my wife to go see the new Lincoln movie. Not having gone to a movie for some time, I was sticker shocked when the movie attendant said, “Two tickets, that will be $18, please.” Next came popcorn and drinks for a grand total of $29! I thought to myself, I could have bought the movie for that price. Then my “bleeding green” mind went to the thought of how many 4-Hers a person can help for less than the cost of a trip to the movies.

As we look back over 2012, the Kentucky 4-H Foundation has shared countless stories of how leadership is being developed in our young people. The self-esteem that comes from competing in projects is helping so many of our 230,000 4-Hers excel. The ability of 4-H to keep current is remarkable. But all this takes money to maintain the momentum of this tremendous success.

I know you value what Kentucky 4-H has done for you, but do you know how vitally important it is for you to contribute to Kentucky 4-H? That is why I am reaching out during this holiday season and this time of giving to ask you to make a year-end donation to support Kentucky 4-H.

It’s no secret that federal and state funding has declined over the past 15 years. Awards, trips, and programs you may have enjoyed as a 4-Her must now be paid for by private sources. That is why the 4-H Foundation has aggressively stepped forward to fill the important role of fund development for Kentucky 4-H.

Here’s your chance to make a difference in the lives of Kentucky 4-H members while being a part of a great tradition. Your donation will support awards, trips, programming, camp improvements, and more benefitting 4-Hers from all 120 Kentucky counties. Your financial support will complement the major donors we have secured for many state-level 4-H activities like Teen Conference, state officer and Teen Council expenses, 4-H Summit, Horse program, Livestock Judging, and much more.

You can join current donors who have helped us increase college scholarships for 4-H members, start a new achievement program, and complete major renovations and new construction at all four 4-H camps while funding curriculum and program development.

Your donation can be designated to be equally distributed between the County 4-H Council of your choice and the 4-H Foundation’s Annual Fund; or to a 4-H program, project, or activity that most interests you, maybe one that provides you with fond memories.

By joining us in the goal of raising $3 per 4-Her by giving $20.13 for 2013 – a donation that is less than the cost of a trip to the movie or a nice dinner – you will help us reach our goal to support Kentucky 4-H. If you feel a strong connection to 4-H and are able to donate more, we certainly welcome that support, too.

Now is a great time to support 4-H by making a year-end donation. Making your donation is as easy as visiting us online at www.kentucky4hfoundation.org, and clicking on Donate! If you prefer to pay by check or sending your donation by mail, click here for a donation reply form. Looking for a 2013 New Year’s resolution, how about a monthly pledge charged to your credit card?

Kentucky 4-Hers are leading the way in addressing many of today’s pressing issues, including the environment, energy, obesity, civic leadership, science education, bullying, and much more. Your decision to honor Kentucky 4-H with your financial support will make the difference in how we can enhance and expand programming and recognition for 4-H members. Abraham Lincoln said, “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” Please join us in supporting these young people by making your donation today!
