The Kentucky 4-H Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Kentucky 4-H Scholarships. The scholarships that were available were the Michael Bandy/Ale-8 One scholarship and the Farm Credit Mid-America Scholarships. The requirements for applicants were they had to be a member of 4-H, graduating in 2013, and has been active in Kentucky 4-H in the last two years.

The first scholarship is the Michael Bandy/Ale-8 One scholarship. This scholarship is made possible by an endowment established by Ms. Brenda Bandy, mother of Michael Bandy and the annual support from the Ale-8 One Bottling Company. Ms. Bandy and Ale-8-One established this scholarship in 2010 to honor Michael Bandy’s life and his passion for helping youth.

For 2013, the 4-H Foundation will award Alison Ray of Hardin County the Michael Bandy/ Ale-8 One scholarship of $1,000. Alison has been a member of the Hardin County 4-H program for the past twelve years and has served in several leadership roles, including State 4-H Teen Council delegate and State 4-H Bronze and Silver Achievement Award recipient. Alison plans on attending Eastern Kentucky University to study General dietetics.

Farm Credit Mid-America sponsored four scholarships this year of $500 each. The scholarships were awarded based on 4-H involvement, followed by financial need, then academic achievement. The four winners are as follows:

• Blaine Bailey, Versailles. – Blaine plans on attending the University of Kentucky to study Chemistry and Music. Blaine has been a 4-H member for 10 years and has earned state level recognition for his project work in horticulture and photography. Blaine has also earned the Bronze Honor award and is currently competing for the state level 4-H Gold Achievement Award.

• Chandler Young, Bardstown – Chandler plans on attending Elizabethtown Community and Technical College to study Computer Information Technology. Chandler currently serves as Vice President of the Nelson County 4-H Teen Council, is a member of the 4-H State Teen Council, and many other clubs. Chandler has also represented Kentucky at 4-H National Congress, and National 4-H Conference.

• Amanda Jo Morrow, Hopkins County – Amanda Jo plans on attending Murray State University to study Special Education LBD. Amanda is a member of her area teen council and State 4-H Teen Council. Amanda has received her Bronze and Silver Level Achievement awards through 4-H and serves as Vice President of the Madisonville North Hopkins High School Teen Club.

• Elizabeth Paige Hart, Caldwell County – Paige plans on attending the University of Louisville to study Biology / Pre-med. Paige has served as President of Caldwell County 4-H Teen Club for three years. She has also served as a delegate to the State 4-H Teen Council for the past two years and is on the planning committee for the Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference.
