It is the time of year again that the farmers of the Commonwealth have the opportunity to support their local communities by voluntarily donating $10 while renewing their farm vehicle license plates.
We are excited to have the support of Agricultural Commissioner James Comer and the local county clerk’s to promote the Ag Tag Program. At the beginning of 2012, Commissioner Comer made the decision to take all monies donated to the Ag Tag Fund and divide them evenly between Kentucky 4-H, Kentucky FFA, and the Kentucky Proud program, all of which being vital programs for Kentucky’s youth and the agricultural economy of the Commonwealth.
Last year Kentucky 4-H received $160,895.06 as its portion of the donations. Half of those funds are returned to the county where the donation originated.
The counties have the opportunity to utilize the donations on a local level including funding programs and activities that teach children and teens about leadership, citizenship, science and technology, communications, public speaking, agriculture and more. The 4-H Foundation uses its share to support state level 4-H activities for participating youth providing additional positive experiences and opportunities.
The agricultural community can be instrumental in helping to develop tomorrow’s leaders by making the voluntary donation this March. With over 160,000 farm vehicle tags in the Commonwealth there is a potential of $1.6 million annually to be distributed amongst the three programs.
Your donation will reach over 238,000 4-H’ers through local and state level programming. The youth of Kentucky count on donations like yours to enable them to develop as strong leaders that can one day make a difference in your community. As you renew each farm license plate this March, please consider how your generous gift will make a difference in the life of Kentucky’s youth. Together we can Make the Best Better!
