If you have a Passion for the Green, the 4-H Green that is, then this is the week you need to show it. Why? It’s time to celebrate National 4-H Week!
Kentucky 4-H is alive and well involving over 240,000 members and across the United States more than 6 million young people participate in 4-H. Kentucky 4-H is a proven, researched based program that is making the difference in the lives of today’s youth. 4-H promotes the full development of young people while instilling strong values and morals. It fosters life skills, positive self-esteem, citizenship and leadership skills in a “learn-by-doing” approach that helps participants become contributing, productive, self-directed members of society.
Last week Governor Steve Beshear in a meeting with our State 4-H Officers at the State Capitol signed a proclamation recognizing the members, volunteer leaders, and staff of Kentucky 4-H and proclaimed October 5 – 11, 2014 as Kentucky 4-H Week. Governor Beshear shared with our officer team how he believes in 4-H and how important the organization is to developing Kentucky’s young people.

I encourage you to take time this week to think about your 4-H experiences and to consider what 4-H means to you. National 4-H Week is the perfect time to honor 4-H and your 4-H memories and experiences. Why not reach out to a 4-H Agent or volunteer that made a difference in your life and say thank you. Wear some green this week or express your 4-H pride by helping to spread the word about 4-H Week on social media. Or better yet, take this opportunity to give back to an organization that did so much for you.
