Com DayWhen 4-H alumni are asked — “What did you gain through 4-H that has made the most impact on your career?” – the most popular answer is public speaking. From the club level to state competition the evidence proves, without question, that communication skills are one of the most important things 4-H’ers learn-by-doing.

As a 4-H alumnus, do you remember your first 4-H speech or demonstration? Odds are no matter what color ribbon you received, the memories of writing the speech and the butterfly’s that lived in your stomach before you stepped forward to deliver are putting a smile on your face right now. The 4-H Communications Program is based around the concept of helping youth to explore, develop, and define their communications abilities in regards to such areas as public speaking, personal expression, interaction with others, and professional correspondence.

State 4-H Communications Day will bring 300+ 4-H’ers and over 450 parents to the University of Kentucky campus for a day of competition, learning, speeches and demonstrations. The 4-H Foundation is helping to recruit judges and room hosts for State 4-H Communications Day on Saturday, July 13, 2013. This is a perfect opportunity to give back to 4-H.

For the second year, the Kentucky Corn Growers Association is the Presenting Sponsor for Communications Day. We thank them for their tremendous support that has allowed us to make significant improvements to this program.
