Lydia’s 4-H adventure began as a curious cloverbud, eagerly attending monthly meetings where she could craft and sample new foods like pumpkin chili. As she grew, so did her involvement, joining numerous 4-H clubs and becoming a cornerstone of the Country Ham Club since its inception in her county. This club’s annual event, where community members meet the 4-Hers, has become a highlight for Lydia, who loves engaging with her neighbors.
Her 4-H resume is impressive, including memberships in the Teen Club, Project Club, Service Club, and Cooking Club. Lydia’s enthusiasm for 4-H camp is infectious; she relishes the opportunity to mentor younger members and has become a positive role model. This summer, her dream of becoming a camp counselor came true as she served as a junior counselor.

Public speaking has been another area where Lydia has flourished. Over the years, she has delivered numerous speeches, with her confidence growing each time. She particularly enjoys the demonstrations arena, where she can showcase her culinary skills to judges and audiences alike.
Leadership is a skill Lydia has honed through 4-H, thanks to the guidance of exceptional 4-H agents. She values their expertise and spends time helping younger 4-Hers at day camps and club meetings, as well as assisting community members through service projects. One memorable event was a Service Club meeting where they prepared single-serve, freezer-ready meals for elderly community members, ensuring they had convenient, nutritious options.
4-H has provided Lydia with countless opportunities to lead, follow, grow, learn new skills, make friends, and discover more about herself. She has become a stellar spokesperson for the organization.
Looking ahead, Lydia plans to pursue a career in agricultural engineering. This fall, she will begin her college education at The Gatton Academy at WKU, a prestigious program for driven STEM students. Lydia is excited to be part of this elite group, which accepts only 95 students from across the state each year. She will graduate from high school with an associate degree, ready to tackle the challenges of the future.
