I grew up in Mt. Sterling (Montgomery County) where, through Boys Scouts, I learned firsthand how impactful strong adult mentors and strong youth development programs can be for kids. After getting my Eagle Scout (and graduating high-school) I moved to Chicagoland to attended Judson University. After meeting my wife and graduating from Judson with B.A. of Architecture, I remained in Chicago eventually finding my way to the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County.
Working in the nonprofit world comes from a firsthand experience with both having a mentor and being a mentor. I truly believe that many of society’s problems can be helped by providing ALL youth access and opportunities to have consistent, positive relationships with adults
In July 216, after twelve years in the Midwest, I was ready to come home to Kentucky. After a Zoom interview and a quick trip down to Lexington for a in-person interview, I accepted the offer to take on the new role of Director of Advancement for the Kentucky 4-H Foundation. Over the last five years, it’s been my pleasure to work, learn, and grow alongside Melissa, Jessica, our Board of Directors, and Kentucky 4-H Specialist, Agents, and Volunteers. Having no experience with 4-H or agriculture, I spent the first few year “drinking from a fire hydrant”, and truly appreciate all those who helped me find my place in the Extension family.
In my role, much like 4-H agents, I wear multiple ‘hats’ every day, but each task I do boils down to two thinks I love to do –
- Demonstrating 4-H’s impact through effective storytelling
- Connecting individuals and business with meaningful ways to support the youth in their communities
So, whether its filming and editing interviews with alumni, writing grants for program support, or helping a donor find a program that resonates with them – I love sharing 4-H’s story and helping people connect/support their communities.
Outside of work, I love being a dad to two boys (and a girl soon) and being a husband to my wife Candace! As a family we love being outside – whether its chores at the farm or camping in the Gorge – we aim to spend as much time outside as we can. We also love taking road trips – our longest yet is 22 hours! I am passionate about food, supporting local food systems, helping people maximize their potential, and revitalizing Appalachia.
